Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Terence Newman may be forced to sit out the remainder of the regular season after suffering a sprained MCL in a 42-28 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, reports ESPN.
Following the game on Sunday, and even into his press conference on Monday, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was dismissive in regards to the severity of Newman's injury, claiming he was "just a little sore." But it was clear from the onset that Newman had suffered a relatively serious knee injury, and even appeared in Monday's open locker-room session sporting a knee brace and crutches.
In Newman's absence, the Bengals will go with second-year cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick
"Terrence and Leon and Adam [Jones] have been able to hold Dre at bay," Lewis said on Monday. "They've had a big stiff-arm on him in trying to keep their jobs from him. Frankly, they've been great mentors for him. He'll get an opportunity to expand his role."
In addition to Newman, safety George Iloka suffered a head injury against the Colts and his status for Sunday's game remains up in the air.
