The Cincinnati Bengals have long been known to employ players that have run-ins with the law. Former Bengals wideout Chad Johnson will spend 30 days in jail after violating probation.

Broward Judge Kathleen McHugh witnessed Johnson playfully slap his lawyer's rump in the courtroom. McHugh stated that Johnson wasn't taking the situation seriously enough and rejected his plea for no jail time, as well as extending his probation three months. Even after Johnson apologized, McHugh laid down the hammer.

Evelyn Lozada is Johnson's ex-wife. She is the TV reality star of "The Basketball Wives," and immediately filed for divorce after the dispute occurred in August. Johnson and Lozada shared just one month of wedded bliss.

Johnson has oft been known for his antics on the field, his outrageous touchdown celebrations, his ability to keep the crowd in the game and his talent for catching the long ball and running away with it. During his time with the Bengals, Johnson caught 751 passes for 10,783 yards, 66 touchdowns and just seven fumbles in 151 games over 10 years.

ESPN's "First Take" interviewed Johnson last Friday. He stated that he knew he could not afford any more trouble and that the violation occurred due to a "miscommunication" between he and his probation officer.

"I'm going to be OK," Johnson said. "I'm OK now, but I put myself in this situation and I have to deal with everything. With life, I'm at peace with everything. I would love to finish my career off the right way. If it happens, I'm not sure. But I would like to." (ESPN.com)

After leaving Cincinnati, Chad Johnson played one year for the New England Patriots in 2011 before moving on to the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins released Johnson following the domestic violence charge. The 35-year old is currently a free agent looking to land on a team and hit the turf this fall.
