Prater had the coverage on WR AJ Green on a deep route when Andy Dalton uncorked a ball that left no one doubting his arm strength. The ball traveled over 70 yards in the air before Green, despite good coverage from Prater, made one of his trademark acrobatic goal line grabs over Prater.
Shaun Prater will have better days to be sure. Few receivers in the league can do to cornerbacks what AJ Green does on a regular basis. And maybe Prater should give an interview to Greg Cosell and assure him that Any Dalton's arm strength is just fine.
Dre Kirkpatrick was back on the field Monday taking reps at corner. Leon Hall is still rehabbing his Achilles and veterans Nate Clements and Adam Jones were also sidelined with minor injuries. That left free agent acquisitions Jason Allen and Terence Newman lining up against the first team offense most of the time.
As far as the offense is concerned, Brandon Tate is still holding the slot opposite AJ Green with the starting unit, but Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu are coming on quickly. Watch out for UC product Armon Binns though. The coaching staff is very impressed with his precise route running.
And congratulations to T Andre Smith who missed last week's workouts for a good reason: he got married. Smith was back at right tackle on Monday. He and his bride have yet to honeymoon. That's dedication!
