Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis spoke to the media at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis addressing a variety of subjects, including his own future with the club.

Lewis was asked about his pending "lame duck" status with the club as he currently is heading into the 2012 season with only one year left on his contract. While Lewis said that doesn't concern him necessarily, he also disclosed that Bengals' owner Mike Brown has approached him concerning extending his contract, something Lewis said they would discuss further this off season.

“He would like to get it extended. He’s told me that two or three times,” Lewis said. “We would like to continue moving forward and we haven’t had the opportunity to do it. Hopefully we’ll get it resolved.”
Lewis also addressed a couple of injury updates, specifically cornerback Leon Hall and wide receiver Jordan Shipley. Lewis said that Hall was ahead of where he thought he would be at this point recovering from an Achilles' injury and that Shipley has made "significant progress" rehabbing his knee injury he suffered in Denver in week two.
Lewis also touched on the legal situation facing linebacker Rey Maualuga, stating, "There's a concern. What he does away from football is important."
As for the players he was there to look at, Lewis was asked specifically about one player who would not be in attendance, Alabama running back Trent Richardson. Lewis was quick to tell reporters he was not there to "pontificate on draft position" but that running back certainly would be an area the team would be looking at. Lewis said that he expects the running game to "move forward" next season, with or without Cedric Benson.
Stay with Bengals 101 for all your combine coverage. Saturday's schedule will have linemen will be going through drills and we'll be paying close attention to two of the team's top targets, Stanford guard David DeCastro and Georgia's Cordy Glenn.
