Yes, the Cincinnati Bengals are 4-2 and surprisingly in contention on this weekend of their bye, but that doesn't mean Bengals fans are devoid of football interest. Its' never too early to start scouting potential draftees, so Bengals 101 will begin highlighting matchups where Bengals fans can preview possible future stars in stripes.
The Bengals have drafted well, but still have some holes to fill as well as some free agent concerns in the off season. Here's who you can watch for in today's games:
Alabama takes on Tennessee at 7:15 on ESPN2. With Cedric Benson a free agent after the season, running back may be an area for the Bengals to address next April. In that department, it doesn't get any better than the Tide's Trent Richardson. At 5'11" and 224 pounds, he can pound between the tackles, but also has Barry Sanders like speed and agility. Alabama safeties Mark Barron and Robert Lester could also be on the Bengals' radar with Chris Crocker aging. This is perhaps the best safety tandem in the nation.
With Bobbie Williams a free agent and Nate Livings still struggling at guard, the Bengals could possibly be looking that direction as well. Stanford's David DeCastro is an attractive candidate at 6'5" and 312 pounds. Only a junior, DeCastro still might declare early with Andrew Luck leaving Palo Alto. Stanford hosts Washington tonight on ABC, although Cincinnati viewers will have to view the game online on ESPN3.
So after you've raked some leaves and picked out a pumpkin today, settle in tonight and watch some possible future Bengals on display.
