Free agent safety Donte Whitner tweeted "Who Dey" earlier today and had reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the Bengals. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported and Whitner confirmed on Twitter (that is if we're to believe what Whitner tweets) that he's now headed to the San Francisco 49'ers.
It's not clear where the breakdown occurred, but former Bengal John Thornton tweeted he believed Whitner was engaged in a bit of gamesmanship, using the Bengals offer to drive up the 49'ers price. In any event, what was a promising signing for Cincinnati has gone by the wayside.
